The hotel is conveniently Located on Makerere Hill just below Makerere University, 200 meters off sir Apollo Kagwa road. It is less than 10 minutes walk to the prestigious Makerere University main campus, 10 minutes drive from the city center, and one hour drive from Entebbe International Airport. By deliberate choice, the hotel is situated in an area that is typically Ugandan in character and setting.

For the adventurous guest, The Grand Global Hotel is also advantageously located near the Kasubi Tombs – A world heritage site where four Kabakas (kings of Buganda kingdom) are buried and the Uganda National Museum. Regarding other services or facilities, we are also located near Mulago Hospital and other private hospitals (for example, Nakasero Hospital and Case Clinic) which offer excellent medical, dental and pharmaceutical facilities.

Wandegeya trading center, which is five minutes drive from the Hotel, is a home to a variety of local shopping outlets, TURSKY’s supermarket, boutiques, African crafts shops, four banks with ATMs, and restaurants including fast food stores and bars.

Third party politics: owning the client

I often come across hotel owners who insist that their hotel is performing well and as such, they see no need for a marketing strategy or a dedicated sales effort. If your hotel is reaching target with little or no sales or marketing, then you are sitting on a perfect 10!

But – and it’s a big BUT – after further conversation and some quiet digging on my part as to what channels the guests are using to book rooms and where the business is coming from, the truth is revealed: often, a large percentage of bookings stem from third party websites such as booking.com, TripAdvisor, safarinow and lekkeslaap. If this is not managed carefully, this can result in a precarious predicament! This reminds me of the best lesson I learned at varsity – own the client.
